I mean, if we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.

it happens

Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace had a partially collapsed left lung and fractured a rib late in the team’s double-overtime victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

For those of you who don’t know, in the winter of 2003, after I graduated from undergrad and was working at Troux, I still played basketball at Gregory.  PatSun and I went to play and I was helping on defense.  I slid over from the weak side and raised my hands to prevent a layup.  The offensive guy drove with his knee up and it landed into my right chest area.

It broke the 5th rib, much like G Wallace.  The rib breaking inward stabs and punctures the lung.  It hurt but it feels like when you get the wind knocked out of you.  So I thought I’d eventually be able to breathe normally.  I finished the game, which we won, but when the adrenalin left, I knew something was wrong.  I had a really hard time breathing.

Anyways, G Wallace, I feel your pain.

Hajji

Posted by Jason Wu on January 23, 2009

Hajji is an honorific title given to a Muslim person who has successfully completed the Hajj to Mecca, and is often used to refer to an elder, since it takes time to accumulate the wealth to fund the travel.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia because I watched HBOs Generation Kill and they use the term in a more derogatory way.

neglect

Posted by Jason Wu on January 21, 2009

Talk about neglect.  In theory I should post more now that I’m back in school and on a more normal schedule.  Lets update.

1. My dad was named man of the year by the local chamber of commerce in PL.

2. Ken and I moved and live on E TC Jester – north of I10/south of 610, I’ve unpacked most of my things and am so far enjoying the new place.

3.  For the new place, I bought a new 46 inch Samsung A650.  We actually don’t have cable, but even my AVIs look good on the TV and MKVs look amazing.  We’re getting DirectTV on Friday and I’m looking forward to watching basketball games in HD again.  The TV actually went on sale on Sunday at Best Buy, but they sold out.  We went to Costco the next day to shop and decided to swing by Sears to look at TVs.  On the way to Sears I passed Conn’s so we stopped by since they sell TVs too.  Amazingly they had 3 TVs in stock at price comprable to Best Buy.  So I bought it and Andrew was kind enough to help us haul it home.  So far so good.  I love the TV.

4. I’ve been trying to get into a clinical study for Psoriasis.  As a student, my insurance won’t cover the 2k a month drug that I need to keep my skin clear.  So while I get paid very little to do this clinical study, it involves an FDA approved drug (Enbrel) that I’ve used in the past and I know costs 2k a month.  I went in and had blood taken and all the normal testing stuff.  Everything came back normal but the nurse didn’t give me a TB test (PPD).  So now I have to go back in Friday to get the shot and return Monday to verify I don’t have TB and then get the drugs Monday and start treatment.  So I should start treatment on Monday.  The only sad part is that the drug to placebo rate is 50%.  So pray I get the real drug.  If I do get placebo, I’ll have to use it for 3 months before getting the real drug for 3 months.  If I get drug in the first 3 months, I still get it for the last 3.  As you suspect, I would prefer using the drug for 6 months and basically guaranteeing my skin will clear and stay clear at least until winter.  Even after that, past results have been that I gradually get worse over time.  Getting the drug and clearing up should be able to last me until school is over.  Then in theory I should get medical insurance.

5. This was the first week of school.  School sucks.  So much reading.

6. Jason Wu designed Ms. Obama’s dress that she wore to the Inaguration balls.  Everybody decided to let me know that.  I had to put up a status message on Facebook so people would already know that I knew about the story.  I’ve actually known about the other Jason Wu since he was designing dolls.  I’ve Googled my name many times.  I use to compete with him on who would be the first Jason Wu returned on a Google search.  After his first real fashion show covered by newspapers and magazines, it was basically a worthless fight.  There’s even a Jason Wu photographer who ranks higher than me now.  You’ll never find my web precense searching for Jason Wu.

7.  I have a gap from 230 til 6pm on Monday/Wednesday.  I’m trying really hard to stay on campus and use the time to read and stuff.  As you can see by this post, I’m not really reading, but at least I saved some gas/mileage by staying on campus.

Christmas

Posted by Jason Wu on January 5, 2009

Christmas time is always great.  For starters, it occurs after finals, when the big heavy weight has been lifted off your chest.  This year’s finals seemed extra tough because I was taking more classes.  Granted the classes were worth less credits, but having more subjects just makes it harder.  I got to see my family in PL.  Sadly I did not get to eat El Patio because they are so authentic they close down for two weeks during the holidays to go back to Mexico.  We played bball.  Duffy came down to visit.  We even had a LAN at Sunny’s house.  Didn’t catch any fish though.  I came back to Houston for New Years and stayed here to hang with some visiting friends (Sungjin) and everybody else.  Saw a Rockets game, played table tennis, played football, ate out a lot, a general good time was had.  Only bad thing was that the hose to my power steering pump was leaking and needed to be replaced.  Oh and the battery to my laptop will not hold a charge.  I’m taking it into a warranty place tomorrow.  We’ll see what they say.  I’m moving into a new apartment with Ken on Wednesday-Sunday.  We’re saving some effort by getting movers.

Anyways, the videos from basketball in PL are almost done.  I only have one more to upload, which I will do right after I post this.  Here is the link to the videos.

bloop is the classic blooper reel

multippl is a mashup of people: kenneth/johnson/jerry/david/kevin (mash) and individual sections of: mickey, arthur, jeff, oliver, ian

block is a defensive video of steals and … blocks

the last video i upload will be a clip with four individual parts of sunny/andy/cary/me

enjoy:
