Update

Posted by Jason Wu on August 28, 2008

Jerse pointed out in her latest post that Twitter may be the reason for her lack of posts.  I know for sure that my Facebook status has removed some of the drive behind blogging.  Instead of short life updates, I find updating my Facebook status instead.  One of the reasons is that I can update my Facebook status so easily with my cell phone.

So what has happened?

This was the first week of school.  The schedule has been full.  Starting last Thursday, I took and unofficially passed the patent bar.  I took most of the weekend off, but I did have to do some reading for classes.

Saturday I spent 9am-2pm on campus for orientation for the Business and Tax Law Journal.  It looks good on the resume and satisfies my writing requirement.  It adds extra work and headache, so I hope it will be worth it.

Monday was my light day and I only have one morning class.  I hung around the rest of the afternoon.  Tuesday was going to be full of classes so I had a lot of reading to do.

Tuesday was much different from Monday.  I had a full day, and had 5 of my 6 classes.  For starters, parking is a nightmare at the beginning of school.  Parking passes overlap and people haven’t dropped or skip classes as much.  I do have a couple cool classes like ‘Gaming and the Law’, no final, just a paper, and ‘Digital Transactions’, an LLM class which is interesting and about how to start a dot com.

So 8pm rolls around and I get out of my last class.  I go to my car which is illegally parked in a faculty lot, without a ticket thankfully, and it wouldn’t start.  It appeared to have power, but it just made a clicking sound and wouldn’t even try to start.

Thanks to Andrew – for picking me up from campus.  It so happened that we were doing a live fantasy football draft, and he missed his first pick (he got autopicked Stephen Jackson with 4th pick).  I got to ride in Taco3.

Thanks to Annie - for both going with me later that night to try and jumpstart my car and loaning me her car.  Annie actually let me used her car on Wednesday and Thursday since she could use her parent’s car.  So I didn’t miss any class.

Wednesday, I woke up to get my car towed to a Honda dealership because they were only going to charge $29 for diagnosis vs the $89 diagnosis the local mechanic was going to do.  Of course the $29 applies to the eventual cost of replacing my starter, which was a big chunk of change.  I still had class.

In review:
School Started – 6 classes, 15 hours of credit
Law Journal – hooray I made it, boo more work
Asian Law Students Association – hooray I’m an officer, boo more work
Car broke – hooray for Andrew and Annie, boo more work and more cost
Labor Day – hooray long weekend, boo have to do work during it
Football – hooray sport I actually watch, boo it isn’t basketball

US Patent and Trademark Office

US Patent and Trademark Office Registration Examination for Patent Attorneys and Patent Agents

That’s a mouthful.  I call it the Patent Bar.  You don’t need to be a lawyer to take it.  If you pass it you get to be an agent until you are a lawyer.  It is 100 questions multiple choice administered in two three hour chunks of 50 questions each with an hour lunch.  I  specifically point out lunch because I was not aware going in that I would not be able to leave the testing center to buy and enjoy lunch.  So I had to rush to a close little gas station and just pick up a snack before starting the exam.  The test is given at Prometric testing centers.  Its just cubicle type computer testing center with cameras, finger prints and all the typical security.

Anyway:

Preliminary test results show that you passed the U.S. Patent And Trademark Office Registration Exam.  You will receive your official examination results from the USPTO in due course.

cpu assist?

Phelps squeeked out a win.  In real time I didn’t think he won.  The frame by frame confirms the win, but I’m a little dissapointed that he didn’t break the World Record to win.  He didn’t even have water in his goggles.

Chi – na ?

Posted by Jason Wu on August 16, 2008

Anybody watch Women’s water polo today?
In the China vs Italy matchup, was the crowd really cheering Chi-na and not jia yo as usual. Perhaps the crowd was made up of English speaking fans, but I doubt it. I really think the announcer just didn’t know any better and assumed that all people on the planet speak English. I really couldn’t tell what they were yelling, but really?

Related news, water polo is the dirtiest sport ever. You basically foul every time somebody touches the ball. You get kicked and slapped in the face and good defense sometimes is clubbing somebody’s arm.

I haven’t been able to logon to my Gmail account since before Michael Phelps won his last gold medal.  Yes that is how I will measure time from now until Sunday.

International Play

Posted by Jason Wu on August 5, 2008

Kobe Bryant appears to either not be trying or sucking because he isn’t getting help from the refs.  Chris Bosh looks great.  The defense still has a ton of holes.  They also don’t really shoot that well.  If you think about it, the line is closer but it is not at the same spot you shoot from all the time.  So your memory is to shoot a little harder, but your senses tell you that it is actually closer.  Either way, I’m glad to be watching basketball in August.
